Sustainability

Our Environment is Vital.

We believe that any construction project needs to be developed with sustainability in mind. Doing so is the only way to ensure that the valuable natural resources within our communities are available for generations to come.

Potential Energy, Water, and Materials savings equivalent to:

over

80k

homes worth of energy saved

based on reduced energy use

Over

200k

homes worth of water saved

by reducing and reusing potable water

over

1400

acres of forests preserved

based on reduced carbon footprint

over

700

added trees

15+ acre community solar field
three city blocks worth of solar

Enough to power over

1000

homes

Every aspect of The Invert – from construction practices, to the utilization of finished green spaces – is designed to minimize environmental impact. And because we recognize the southeast side as an environmental justice community, we take our approach to the environment and public health seriously.

Building beneath the surface allows construction to utilize the natural limestone for structure and uses far fewer materials resulting in less consumption and waste.

Additionally, subsurface development requires far less energy to operate and maintain making it a more sustainable long-term solution than conventional construction. Utility consumption and costs of similar campuses in the Kansas City area use only 1/4 to 1/3 the utilities of comparable surface buildings.

Another benefit of subsurface development is that the surface area is still free to be utilized for things like green spaces or solar fields that will provide clean energy sources. Also, subsurface construction results in significantly less urban runoff which in turn prevents flooding and helps keep municipal water clean and free of pollutants.
